Senate Aging Committee Report Includes Faces of Neglect

Departing from three decades of hearings on neglect and abuse in nursing homes, the Senate Special Committee on Aging last July 15 held a hearing on tort reform that excluded the testimony of residents and advocates. NCCNHR protested and asked the committee to include the book we published with Texas Advocates for Nursing Home Residents, Faces of Neglect: Behind the Closed Doors of Texas Nursing Homes, in the committee record. (The book gives 82 case histories of abused and neglected residents with photographs of them before and after they were neglected or injured.) The bound hearing record came out in January with the complete text and photographs included, giving those who would be denied access to civil justice under tort reform the last word. A limited number of copies are available. To order a copy, call the Senate Aging Committee at 202/224-5364.
